The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at each end of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
