Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
